Client: Perth Zoo
Project Details: Replacement of the existing sewer pump station.
Consultant: GHD
Contract Value: $94,978.00
Completed: November 2016
Contract Duration: 4 Weeks
Project Description:
WA Plumbing Solutions were contracted by Perth Zoo to install an Allied Pumps sewer pump station, a 4 meter deep sewerage sediment tank and Water Corp approved sewerage flow meter. We were also required to decommission an existing sewer pump station and remove it from site.
The Scope of the work:
WA Plumbing Solutions tendered on and won the contract, we were required to, provide detailed Gantt charts, Quality control plans, work method statements, OH & S management plans prior to commencing works onsite, all employees and sub contractors were then required to undergo on site inductions held by both the Perth Zoo and WA Plumbing Solutions.
WA Plumbing Solutions were required to install the new sewer pump station within an extremely tight area around existing services, we were also required to abide by the Perth Zoo’s Tree Management Plan. This required us to notify the sites arborist of any significant tree roots that were discovered within the construction zone and the modify the works to reduce the impact on the existing trees and plants. We were the head contractor, scheduling in sub contractors, supplying schedules and attend site meetings. We were required to contract in machinery, asphalts and concreters to complete the works.
Project difficulties/ Issues
The area of installation for the new pump station and sediment tank was extremely tight. The shoring box had to be installed in amongst the Perth Zoos main services, being the 150mm water supply, 150mm irrigation supply, telecommunications and site power to the Orangutan enclosure. As such we only had 100mm clearance each side of the installed shoring box and we had to excavate to a depth below the water table. We overcame the issues by hand digging the area for the shoring box to a depth of 1.5 meter prior to the installation of the shoring box.
